물리학(物理學)은 물질에 대한 연구와, 그것의 운동에 관여하는 에너지나 힘 등을 연구하는 자연과학의 한 분야이다. 보다 넓은 의미에서는 자연에 대한 일반적인 분석과 우주가 어떤 방식으로 존재하는 지를 이해하기 위한 학문이라고 할 수 있다.
물리학은 하위 학문인 천문학까지 고려하면 가장 오래된 학문 가운데 하나이다. 과학 혁명이 있기까지 2천년 이상의 기간 동안 물리학은 철학의 일종이었고, 화학, 수학 등과 함께 자연 철학으로 불렸다.
유럽 언어에서 물리학을 뜻하는 단어는 자연을 뜻하는 고대 그리스어: φύσις 피시스[*]에서 유래하였다. 고대 그리스의 철학자 아리스토텔레스는 《자연학》(Φυσικῆς ἀκροάσεως)에서 여러 가지 운동에 대해 설명하였다.
