텔레비전 (Television)은 동영상 및 화상신호를 전송하는 원거리 통신 대중 매체이다. 단색 또는 컬러로 된 화상정보를 전송하며 소리가 포함된 정보가 전달될 수 있다.
텔레비전은 원거리를 뜻하는 그리스어 τῆλε(텔레)와 보는 것을 뜻하는 라틴어 visio(비시오)가 합쳐져 만들어진 말이다.
텔레비전은 1920년대 후반에 처음 등장하여 뉴스, 광고, 엔터테인먼트와 같은 정보를 전달하였다.
