- 인공위성(人工衛星)은 로켓을 사용하여 대기권 밖으로 쏘아 올려진 주로 지구 둘레의 원 또는 타원 궤도를 위성처럼 비행하는 인공의 물체이다.
- 인공위성이란 인공적으로 행성 주위를 회전하도록 만든 물체들을 말한다.
- 비행하는 궤도의 고도에 따라 정지위성(geostationary satellite)과 이동위성(orbiting satellite)으로 나눈다.
